Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. – Nelson Mandela.
I was a fan of this quote few years back. But as the education standards are decreasing day by day making it a money making business, I wonder how will students use this weapon to change the world?
Changing the world is a far thing. Most of today’s youth find it difficult to change their own life.
How does it feel to study hard for 25 years and still wondering what to do?
Even if we figure out what to do, we are not taught marketing skills unless we study marketing.
Hence, we take any job we get. Then we get used to it. We slowly start behaving like the other employees. We argue over cutting half day wages, office politics and things that doesn’t matter at all. And worst, we take proud in doing so.
Slowly, from being an entrepreneur minded, we become employee minded.
Employees are taught to be disciplined, obey rules, have fear and wait for one long year till they get a salary hike.
Moreover, no matter how hard we work, we are still not sure how much salary hike we will get.
on the contrary, I see entrepreneurs trying new things and scaling their business. They don’t raise their income incrementally like employees, they do it exponentially. They have an increment daily.
Even if they fail, they keep trying new things. Their life is exciting.
Sadly, entrepreneurship is taught only if you select entreprenurship as a subject or join entrepreneur specific college which are very very few compared to other colleges.
This led me to think about what doesn’t matter and what actually matters in real life to succeed. And it was the life lesson I wished I knew 10 years ago.
Here’s what doesn’t matter.
Grades don’t matter.
Grades matter because we want to move to next class.
Grades matter because we want to crack the competitive exam and get a high paying job.
But grades doesn’t matter if you want to do something out of the box which your heart desires.
Why do A students work for C students and B students work for government?
Why do A students have to search for jobs inspite of high grades?
If grades were so important, all the A students would be millionaire by now.
Grades are a measure of success only when we are in school.
After that what matters is…
How you solve someone’s problem with your skills and turn it into a business.
We always talk about starting a business, catch recend trends and follow someone else’s footsteps only to realize that we failed in business.
But do you know any business which doesn’t solve a specific problem for someone?
There are none right?
So why do we chase someone else’s idea and ignore our skills?
The best way to get ahead in life is a business. And the best way to do a business is to work on your skills and strengths and then finding a specific problem and oviding a solution based on your strength and skills.
Take any successful business and you’ll find this similarity. That’s it for today.
Stop blaming the circumstances and start spplying this life lesson to your life.
For now, if you are into education system, try to teach this life lesson to students so that they can think like an entrepreneur right from the beginning.
