TiECON Ahmedabad was held recently on 4th March 2017 at IIM Ahmedabad. This is was the first time I was attending such a global conference on entrepreneurship. TiECON provides the platform to network and learn from Industry Luminaries, VCs, successful entrepreneurs and experienced executives.
There were lots of speakers and the event was hosted by Siddharth Kannan, an energetic speaker. But there was 1 interesting session by founder of Thyrocare Technologies Ltd., Dr. A. Velumani who mesmerized the audience from his rags to riches story.
Here I three life-changing lessons I learned from his speech which was the only speech that got standing ovation and because of which I do not regret attending TiECON.
If you do what you have studied, you’ll survive. If you do what you haven’t studied, you’ll emerge as a leader.
This was such a profound lesson that the audience couldn’t stop but applause. We all know that the majority of people who have selected a particular field of study was taken because either we didn’t knew what we wanted to do or we did not get admission in our field of interest. And the consequence, we got a job in the field we didn’t actually want in first place. And guess what? We will continue that job till the end of our lives in spite of complaining every single day. Reason? We don’t know what to do apart from our field of study. But here comes a lesson from the 149th richest man of India. If you do what you haven’t studied, you’ll emerge as a leader. Many of world’s richest people studied something else and then went on the unexpected path to make history in other field.
So don’t let your subject get in the way of your dreams. Here’s a quote to inspire you.
English is just a language, not knowledge.
So many of us get involved in learning English but we fail to realize our true potential. We feel that without English, there is no way out there and in the midst of learning English, we delay living our dreams. Don’t let English get in the way of your dreams. There are countless examples of people who have made a mark in their field without English. What your customers want is the solution to their problems. And the solutions to every problem are not English.
You can either discuss or decide.
In life, you can either discuss or decide. You can’t do both. Of these two we discuss the most. And then we are not able to decide. The only way to do something is to decide. You can’t do both. Of these two we discuss the most. And then we are not able to decide. The only way to do something is to stop discussing and start deciding. Start taking decisions. Take that first step. What do you want at the end of this year? Lots of discussions or lots of decisions?
